In Mapview for Salesforce, there are three types of groups, custom, Salesforce and external. In this document, we focus on the different types of Salesforce groups and how they are generated.
There are three different levels of Salesforce groups: Object, View, and Field.
Object Level Groups
The Object level group takes precedence over the View and Field groups. It is automatically generated with you import a specific object, such as Lead, Account or Opportunity. When the Object level group is turned on you will not see View or Field groups.
View Level Groups
The View level group takes precedence over Field groups. View groups are automatically generated when you import a specific view that you had created in Salesforce. Views help you target specific types of customers or prospects, such as accounts with contracts expiring in the next 6 months. When the View level group is turned on you will not see Field level groups.
Field Level Groups
Field level groups are not automatically generated during the import process. To learn how to generate Field level groups, read this article. Field level groups are generated from fields that are picklists. For example, you can create groups with the Lead field 'Rating'. In standard Salesforce configuration, this field will have three values 'Hot, Warm and Cold'. A group will be generated for each picklist value.
